Since 1996, each faculty of the LMU has its own dean of students. Their task is to help improving the general environment for studying.

Currently, Prof. Dr. Andreas Haufler is the dean of students at the economic faculty.

The LMU Economics Exchange Office is in charge of the exchange programs of the Faculty of Economics.

The ERASMUS representative/foreign representative of the Faculty of Economics is Prof. Dr. Uwe Sunde.

The contact person in the university administration is the International Affairs Department of the LMU.

The student advisory service offers guidence on all matters concerning the field of studying economics. For specific matters it can also refer you to the relevant contacts.

The student advisory service offers guidance on all questions not related to the statuory examination framework. All matters concerning the statuory examination framework are dealt with by the examination office (ISC) of the Department of Economics.

The Bachelor Office is the first port of call for undergraduate students.

The administration of the Ph.D. examination process for both the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Business Administration is handled by the Ph.D. Examination Board. Both faculties award successful candidates the doctoral degree “oeconomiae publicae” (Dr. oec. publ.)

Central Facilities

Apart from the Library for Economic Sciences, the Faculty hosts several subject-specific libraries. Furthermore, students and employees may use the University Library and the Bavarian State Library.

In order to provide students with the hard- and software necessary for applied learning and research, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Business Administration runs the CIP-Laboratory, which hosts a high-performance infrastructure.

The CIP-Lab is used by the Faculty of Business Administration together with our Faculty. Access is granted for students of both faculties.

It is located at Ludwigstr. 28 (front building), 1st floor (access through the Library of Economic Sciences). A teaching room is also located at Ludwigstr. 28 (rear building), ground level.

The CIP-Labor hosts about 100 PC workstations as well as several peripheral devices (such as printers, scanners, etc.)

The CIP-Labor can be used for working on course assignments and theses, as well as for surfing the Internet. Furthermore, students may access the internet via their own notebooks through a wireless connection. For further information and assistance please refer to a CIP-Labor supervisor.

As a part of the LMUexcellent program, the Faculty of Economics lead the establishment of an interdisciplinary experimental laboratory

As a part of the LMUexcellent program, the Faculty of Economics lead the establishment of an interdisciplinary experimental laboratory to research economic decision-maiking - the Munich Experimental Laboratory for Economic and Social Sciences (MELESSA).

The IT-supported laboratory is designed to be a hub for interdisciplinary research in psychology and economic and social sciences.

In cooperation between the Faculties of Economics and Business Administration at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich and the ifo Institute for Economic Research, a shared data platform for empirical research - the Economics & Business Data Center (EBDC) - was founded as a part of the LMUexcellent program.

The central task of the EBDC is to provide a well-structured and updated data of German companies. The data set combines several sources, for example regarding corporate finance, investment activity and structures of corporate governance, thus empowering researchers to open up new research topics in economics and business administration.

The EDBC acts as a service provider for researchers and visiting researchers at the LMU and the ifo Institute. It offers support to researches onsite, and organizes academic conferences on the empirical research with corporate data.

English is the central language of science and, of course, we have courses that specifically teach you the technical language of economics - but not only in English. Our Center for Specialized Languages offers a whole range of courses in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian, and new courses are being added all the time.

There is a joint examination office called the Information and Service Center for Economic Examinations (ISC) for the administration of the study achievements of the students of the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Business Administration.

With the LMUMentoring program, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München provides intensive support for outstanding young scientists from the postdoc phase onwards on the path of their academic career to a professorship as part of the sustainability program of the second Excellence Initiative. In exceptional cases, particularly excellent doctoral candidates can be admitted to the program.

At the Faculty of Economics, LMU mentoring is integrated into the Junior Development Program.
