Center for Advanced Studies establishes new Research Focus "Evidence-Based Practice in Medicine, Education & Economics"
In January, the CAS Board agreed to establish a new CAS Focus entitled „Evidenzbasierte Praxis in Medizin, Bildung & Wirtschaft“. It stems from a collaboration of two International Graduate Programs that have been established at LMU Munich and that are funded by the Elitenetzwerk Bayern; the program “Evidenced-Based Economics (EBE)” and the program “REASON – Scientific Reasoning and Argumentation”, directed by Frank Fischer (a current Senior Researcher in Residence at CAS). EBE is based in the Economics Department, but REASON has an interdisciplinary focus that involves researchers and scientists from biology, education, mathematics, media informatics, medicine, psychology, and social work.
The CAS Focus, starting in the fall of 2016, aims to highlight the importance of evidence-based decision-making across various domains of the public sphere: medical decisions, educational decisions, and economic decisions (on the political and individual level). Professors Florian Englmaier, Monika Schnitzer, and Joachim Winter are the economists involved in this Focus.
