Nobel Prize 2016 to Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmström

11.10.2016

Oliver Hart (Harvard) and Bengt Holmström (MIT) received the Nobel Prize 2016. The Prize Committee honoured their important contributions to Contract Theory.

As the Committee puts it: “Contracts are essential to the functioning of modern societies. Oliver Hart’s and Bengt Holmström’s research sheds light on how contracts help us deal with conflicting interests.”

Oliver Hart (2001) and Bengt Holmström (2016) are both Distinguished CES Fellows and delivered the prestigeous Munich Lectures. Oliver Hart spent a week this September at the Department to deliver two Keynote Lectures at the 2nd „Lectures on the Economics of Organisation and Human Ressources“ (www.leoh.eu) and at the 5th „CEPR Workshop on Incentives, Management and Organisation“ (http://cepr.org/6720).

The Department cordialy congratulates Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmström to receiving the Nobel Prize.
